### What this is

To make wine or spirits, to import alcohol or to sell it at wholesale in the United States, a business needs a
federal basic permit. The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau publishes the list as files to download, every
week. This site gives every permit a record you can find and cite: the number, the holder, the operating name, the
premises — and the holder's other permits, across states and types.

### Who uses it

- **Permit holders** — check your own record, as a buyer or a carrier will see it.
- **Distributors, retailers and carriers** — confirm a supplier's federal permit before a deal.
- **Suppliers to the trade** — the [new permits of the week](/new.md).

### What it is not

Not the TTB, and not a copy of a permit. The list gives no issue date and no history. Brewers, industrial
